Introduction

This blog tells the story of the discovery, examination and classification of a new order of Starfish, Linumasteroideae, the Thread Starfish. These rare and localised species of starfish are found only along the north coast of Norfolk.

The disc of a large thread star minus any arms has been discovered on the shore of Scolt Head Island only 2km west of the arm found earlier this year.

A detailed analysis of the stitch pattern and thread will be carried out in the lab to see if the fragments are related.
